New Zealand Dollar Tumbles Amidst Middle East Tensions and Domestic Politics
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) has taken a hit against the US Dollar (USD), weighed down by cautious markets and domestic politics. NZD/USD bears are testing support at the 0.5860 area, which could be a key level to watch as they aim to break below it. The reversal comes amidst growing tensions in the Middle East and political uncertainty back home.
New Zealand's Prime Minister Christopher Luxon survived a confidence vote on Wednesday, but the challenge from his defence minister adds to evidence of divergences within the ruling National Party less than three months ahead of New Zealand's elections. This has contributed to the decline of the risk-sensitive NZD.
The technical analysis suggests that if bears break below 0.5860, they will expose a key support area in the confluence of the ascending trendline from late June lows and the 200-day SMA, which is around 0.5835. Further down, the next target is the late July lows near 0.5760.
