Nigeria's Naira Surges Amid Weaker US Dollar Index
The outlook for the Nigerian Naira has brightened as the US dollar index nears a five-month low. This is due to improvements in Nigeria's macroeconomic fundamentals and the global decline in the strength of the greenback.
Nigeria's external reserves have sustained their ascent, exceeding $52 billion, giving the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) the capacity to manage volatility and maintain price stability in the FX market. The Naira has been pulled towards its multi-month highs due to higher FX supply in the Nigerian official market and tight monetary regulation.
Tight interest rates in the Nigerian fixed income space, along with increased yields on instruments, have made them attractive to foreign portfolio investors and global institutional investors, boosting confidence in the Nigerian currency. However, international geopolitical events can still briefly boost demand for the dollar as a haven.
