Tokyo stocks ended nearly unchanged on August 12, with the Nikkei 225 at 66,988.82, as gains in energy and financial shares offset weakness in electronics and pharmaceuticals.

The broader market held firm after the Mountain Day holiday, supported by buying in banks, insurers, energy, and other value-oriented shares.

The session showed that investors remained willing to hold Japanese equities but were more cautious about pushing the Nikkei decisively above 67,000 after the sharp rebound earlier in the month.
