NZ Economy: Experts Weigh In on Housing, Super, and Election Policies
On September 29th, 2026, Dr Eric Crampton, Chief Economist at The New Zealand Initiative, joined a panel discussion hosted by Victoria University of Wellington's Aotearoa Votes election series. The event aimed to examine the state of New Zealand's economy and identify areas that are working effectively versus those that require improvement.
The panel consisted of Dr Crampton, Hilmarie Schulze from BERL, Max Rashbrooke, and Aiden Donaghue, President of VUW Students' Association. Infometrics' Brad Olsen chaired the discussion.
When asked about the current state of New Zealand's economy, Dr Crampton noted that there are several 'stupidest damn things' in this election. He specifically mentioned housing and superannuation as areas where changes could be made for better outcomes.
