NZ Stocks Dipped at Week Start Amid Tariff Concerns
New Zealand's stock market started the week on a downward trend, shedding 25 points or 0.2% to reach 13,748 in Monday morning trade.
The losses were largely attributed to declines in financials, utilities, and real estate sectors, which continued from the previous session.
Investors remained cautious due to US plans to impose tariffs ranging from 10% to 12.5% on 60 economies, including New Zealand, as well as persistently high oil prices that fueled inflation concerns and expectations of further interest rate hikes.
The anticipation of key data releases this week, such as the Fed's monetary policy decision and China's PMI data, also contributed to the cautious sentiment among traders.
