NZD/USD Bounces on Lower Oil Prices, Faces Resistance at 0.5800
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) has shown a modest recovery against the US Dollar (USD) on Thursday, supported by lower oil prices and somewhat brighter market sentiment.
Brent Oil prices remaining below the $100 level is providing relief to oil-importing economies like New Zealand's, which is helping to boost the NZD/USD pair. The pair has traded at 0.5740 after bouncing from the 0.5700 area earlier in the day.
However, the recovery seems corrective, and technical analysis suggests that upside attempts are likely to be tested at 0.5800. Momentum indicators remain negative, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) near 36 just above oversold conditions, and the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) below zero hinting at persistent downside pressure.
The interest rate differential between the US Federal Reserve and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand is also weighing on the pair. The Fed's hawkish turn has boosted hopes of higher interest rates in the US, which is likely to widen the interest rate differential with the RBNZ, as investors dial back hopes of immediate rate hikes.
