NZDUSD Reaches Crossroads as Hawkish Fed Weighs on Kiwi Dollar
The New Zealand dollar is facing strong headwinds after the Federal Reserve's recent rate hike and hawkish stance. The NZDUSD pair has been pressing against a descending trendline resistance on the one-hour chart, with the price retesting the broken horizontal support around 0.5737.
According to CFTC data from September 15, dollar-index net longs eased to 10,593 contracts, reducing the crowding headwind for the USD but not removing it. On the other hand, the fundamentals remain supportive of the dollar, with solid growth and persistent inflation reinforcing its advantage.
From a technical perspective, the price has been printing lower highs along the clean descending trendline, with the FOMC candle on September 16 breaking the horizontal support around 0.5737 with a strong bearish close. This level flipped to resistance, which was retested and rejected on September 17-18.
The trade plan suggests entering the market around 0.5722, with a stop-loss above 0.5750 and a take-profit around 0.5666 for a roughly 1:2 risk-to-reward ratio. The invalidation point would be a one-hour close above the trendline and 0.5750, indicating that the retest failed and the idea is off.
