NZX 50 Holds Ground at New High Amid Oil Price Concerns
The New Zealand stock market, as represented by the NZX 50 index, opened slightly lower on Wednesday morning but held its ground at a new high not seen since September 7.
The index fell by 27 points or 0.2%, reaching 13,848, despite gains in the previous two sessions.
The decline was largely attributed to losses in healthcare, communication services, and real estate sectors.
RBNZ Governor Anna Breman's warning that inflation might be higher if high oil prices persist added to the caution, heightening expectations of an interest rate hike at the upcoming meeting.
