UK inflation rose to 3.1% in August, up from 2.9% in July, according to the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) statistics.
The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) including owner-occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) 12-month rate also increased to 3.3%, up from 3.1% the previous month.
Transport, particularly motor fuels, made the largest upward contribution to the monthly change in both CPIH and CPI annual rates.
