Pound-Euro Volatility Ahead as PMIs Take Centre Stage
The Pound (GBP) exchange rate against the Euro (EUR) has been volatile in recent days, but may find some stability around upcoming UK and Eurozone Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) releases.
Last week's Bank of England interest rate decision caused GBP to fluctuate between a 19-day high and two-week low. Despite this volatility, the exchange rate remains relatively unchanged at €1.16598, only a slight increase from last week's value.
The UK jobs report on Tuesday showed unemployment holding steady rather than rising as forecast, but the figures still pointed to underlying weakness in the labour market. The Pound softened on Wednesday after UK inflation figures offered little support, with headline inflation rising from 2.9% to 3.1% in August.
The Bank of England left interest rates unchanged on Thursday, but slowed the pace of bond sales, pushing UK borrowing costs lower. This decision limited losses for GBP, which regained some ground on Friday after UK retail sales beat expectations with a 0.5% rise in August.
