RBA Policy Board Divided on Rate Hike Decision
The Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) policy board was divided on whether to raise interest rates at its August meeting, according to minutes released by the bank.
While some members felt a rate hike might be necessary due to upside risks to inflation, others believed that the current cash rate of 4.35% was sufficient to bring down inflation and that more time was needed to assess the economy's progress.
The board ultimately decided to hold rates steady, with a warning that incoming data would need to show further progress in reducing inflation back to its target range of 2-3% within a reasonable timeframe.
