Rupee Gains Against Dollar Amid Falling Oil Prices
The Indian rupee appreciated by 5 paise against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday, September 23. This gain was mainly driven by falling crude oil prices and a broader recovery in Asian currencies.
Forex traders believe that ongoing geopolitical developments will significantly influence the currency market's direction going forward.
Softer crude oil prices continue to support the rupee, while concerns about a firm American currency after the US Federal Reserve's recent rate hike and foreign portfolio outflows remain significant factors.
Anindya Banerjee, Head of Commodity and Currency Research at Kotak Securities, stated that 'softer crude remains the rupee's clearest support' with a possible upper cap around 96.30, due to expected Reserve Bank intervention.
