September Jobs Report Shows Slowing Growth Amid Rising Unemployment
US job growth slowed sharply in September, falling short of expectations. The Labor Department's employment report revealed that nonfarm payrolls increased by just 29,000 jobs last month, a significant drop from the 162,000 jobs added in August.
The unemployment rate rose to 4.2% in September, up from 4.1% in August, due to an increase of 485,000 people entering the workforce. However, economists note that this moderation in job growth is likely a one-time occurrence and does not signal a broader decline in labor market conditions.
The report also showed that payrolls have been revised downward for both July and August, with the economy shedding 10,000 jobs in July instead of adding 133,000 as previously thought. This volatility is attributed to the model used to strip out seasonal fluctuations from the data.
