Seymour Slams Labour's Unsustainable Spending Promises
ACT Leader David Seymour has criticized Labour's new spending promises, calling them 'cynical' and unsustainable. The party plans to introduce free GP visits, cervical screening, maternity scans, prescriptions, and public transport fare caps, as well as a Future Fund.
Seymour argues that these promises cannot be paid for without significant tax increases or other unspecified measures. He points out that Labour has promised billions of dollars in spending but does not provide a clear explanation for how this will be funded.
Furthermore, Seymour claims that Labour's plan to restore the Reserve Bank's 'dual mandate' will lead to higher inflation and a greater cost of living for New Zealanders. He points out that this policy was previously associated with a 32-year high in inflation and record-high mortgage rates.
ACT has driven $14 billion of savings across three Budgets, helping the government avoid debt, taxes, and pressure on interest rates. Seymour believes that a smaller, more efficient government is necessary to unlock New Zealand's potential and make life more affordable for its citizens.
