Six Arrested Over Counterfeit Euro Notes Worth €8,900 in Oyo State

The Oyo State Police Command in Nigeria has arrested six suspects for allegedly possessing and circulating counterfeit Euro notes. The suspects were apprehended on Tuesday, September 1, at around 7:30pm while traveling on a motorcycle in the Labo-Wesley area of the state.

According to DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Police Public Relations Officer, a search conducted on the men led to the recovery of 89 pieces of suspected counterfeit €100 notes with a total face value of €8,900. The suspects were identified as Tijani Saheed, 50; Oni Oladapo, 67; Adebayo Saheed, 52; and Hammed Karemu, 25.

The police said that during the investigation, the suspects confessed to the crime and led operatives to the location where they allegedly purchased the counterfeit currency. A forensic sweep of the premises resulted in the recovery of exhibits suspected to have been used in the production of the counterfeit notes.

The alleged producer was arrested, bringing the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the case to six. The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Olugbenga commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.
