South Korea Weighs Joining Green Economy Partnership Agreement
South Korea is considering joining the Green Economy Partnership Agreement (GEPA), a plurilateral trade initiative announced by Singapore, New Zealand, and Chile in October 2025.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources (MOTIR) held a public hearing on July 24, 2026, to gather opinions from stakeholders, experts, and the public before preparing its plan for joining the agreement.
MOTIR Director General Kim Jang-hee emphasized the need for new trade rules that support transparent, science-based environmental measures, citing stronger regulatory cooperation among countries as increasingly important due to expanding climate policies worldwide.
