Suzuki Blasts Carney for Prioritizing Economy Over Climate: 'Driving Canada into a Ditch'

Renowned environmentalist David Suzuki has expressed his disappointment and frustration with Prime Minister Mark Carney's priorities, claiming he is driving Canada into a ditch by prioritizing the economy over climate action. Suzuki, who had initially been supportive of Carney becoming prime minister, now acknowledges that he was 'willfully blind' to Carney's true intentions.

Suzuki stated that despite warnings from his friend, the late Stephen Lewis, that Carney's promises on climate would change once in office, he chose to believe in the former central banker for Canada and Britain. However, Suzuki now believes that Carney has shifted his priorities towards economic growth at the expense of climate action.

The environmentalist pointed out that Canadians' views on climate have changed since Carney took office, suggesting that this is a result of the disconnect between what is essential for human survival and the current economic system. Suzuki emphasized that our very survival depends on Mother Earth, but the planet has been left out of our legal, political, and economic systems.

Suzuki was particularly critical of Carney's decision to cancel the consumer carbon tax and scrap EV mandates and oil and gas emission caps, which he believes have made it impossible for Canada to meet its climate targets. The environmentalist called on Carney to declare a state of emergency and take immediate action to address the crisis.
