In an interview, Suzuki stated that he was initially optimistic about Carney's commitment to addressing climate change but now believes the prime minister is prioritizing economic growth over environmental protection.

Citing Carney's cancellation of the consumer carbon tax and repeal of a mandate to phase out gas-powered cars, Suzuki expressed concern that these policies are detrimental to Canada's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Suzuki also criticized Carney's decision to scrap an emissions cap on oil and gas production, which he believes will only exacerbate the problem.
