Takaichi: Strengthening Economy Key to Maintaining Yen Confidence
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has stated that strengthening Japan's economy and improving international competitiveness will help maintain confidence in the yen. This comes after a coordinated intervention by the Japanese government and US Treasury to support the currency.
Takaichi noted that her government plans to expand domestic investment to boost supply capacity and increase potential growth. She emphasized that economic policy is not intended to steer exchange rates, but rather to strengthen Japan's competitiveness globally.
In a recent meeting with US President Donald Trump, Takaichi confirmed that he raised concerns about yen weakness. She acknowledged that the undervaluation of the yen is a problem and agreed on closer cooperation between Japan and the US to address this issue.
