Takaichi's Yen Rebuild Plan Aims to Boost Global Competitiveness
Sanae Takaichi, Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, has pledged to rebuild trust in the yen through her government's economic policy. She emphasized that the focus is on raising Japan's growth potential by investing in crisis management and growth areas.
Takaichi said that her government's playbook is not aimed at manipulating exchange rates, but rather to strengthen Japan's global competitiveness and ensure market confidence in the yen. This approach is seen as a departure from previous policies that were criticized for their impact on the currency.
The yen has been under pressure due to its undervaluation, which Takaichi acknowledged in her conversation with US President Donald Trump last month. She also stressed the importance of managing Japan's debt-to-GDP ratio through fiscal discipline and responsible bond issuances.
