TAT Aims for Record-Breaking Japanese Arrivals Amid Weaker Yen
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is working to attract more Japanese visitors despite challenges from a weaker yen and higher fuel costs. The agency has set a target of 1.05 million Japanese arrivals in 2026, expecting them to generate around THB42-44 billion in tourism revenue.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool said the agency is promoting Thailand at Tourism Expo Japan 2026 (TEJ 2026), being held from September 24-27. The event showcases Thai culture and sustainable tourism, including wellness workshops and traditional performances.
The TAT aims to attract high-value travelers by highlighting Thailand's unique experiences and value for money. It also plans to work with airlines to increase seat capacity and encourage charter flights from regional Japanese airports.
