Thai Customs Detain Duo with $56M in Smuggled US Banknotes at Suvarnabhumi
Thai customs officials at Suvarnabhumi International Airport detained two foreigners arriving from Indonesia on September 30 for allegedly attempting to smuggle US dollar banknotes worth approximately 56 million baht into Thailand.
Santanee Phairattanakorn, director of the Suvarnabhumi Airport Passenger Control Customs Office, stated that the two passengers were found carrying concealed banknotes during a search of their luggage.
The arrest marks part of an ongoing effort by the Customs Department to continue surveillance and screening of 'high-risk' passengers to prevent cross-border smuggling of currency.
