The Great Canadian Treasure Hunt Enters Second Year with New Regional Prize
The Great Canadian Treasure Hunt is back for its second year, and this time it's got a new regional prize. The Northern Miner, an industry publication, organized the hunt to highlight Canada's mining potential through project highlights and the country's storied mining history.
This year's competition has participants searching for six one-ounce gold coins valued at over $35,000 in Chibougamau, Quebec. With the release of this new prize, there are now only 6 prizes remaining: Chibougamau, Sudbury, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Val d'Or, and the Grand Prize.
IAMGOLD's Nelligan Complex in the Chibougamau-Chapais area is a prime example of innovation in mining. Rather than focusing on one viable site, IAMGOLD adopted a district-scale approach, bringing together disparate pieces into a 1,340 square km district with over 7 million ounces of indicated and inferred gold.
The Nelligan complex represents a significant opportunity for employment, community development, and economic impact in the region. According to Anthony Vaccaro, President of The Northern Miner Group, 'projects like Nelligan show what responsible mine development can mean for a region, creating jobs and investment while contributing to Canada's economy for decades to come.'
