Treasury Yields Dip Ahead of Fresh Fed Comments Amid Iranian Pressure
US Treasury yields declined on Tuesday as investors awaited comments from Federal Reserve officials for insight into inflation and economic trends.
The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield fell by more than one basis point to 4.951%, while the two-year yield dropped to 4.741% and the 30-year yield slipped to 5.288%. The decreases come ahead of a speech by Fed Vice Chair Philip Jefferson at a New York Fed Treasury conference, which is set to be followed by comments from Fed Governor Michael Barr at a housing affordability event.
The developments coincide with increasing pressure on Iran from Washington and the presence of President Donald Trump at the UN General Assembly. Oil markets were also in focus, with Brent crude falling about 1% and West Texas Intermediate dropping 2% following reports that Iran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days.
