Trump Slams Fed Over Interest Rates: 'They're Artificially High'
US President Donald Trump has renewed his criticism of the Federal Reserve's interest rate policy, calling them 'ridiculous' and arguing that they should be lower in light of strong economic numbers. Speaking at the White House on August 20, Trump claimed that policymakers raise rates because they fear inflation, rather than actually addressing it.
'Every time we do great, we announce great numbers, the interest rates go up,' Trump said. 'They should go down because the country is strong.'
Trump also questioned why the US pays higher interest rates than countries like Switzerland, which has a half-per cent interest rate, compared to 3.5 per cent in the US.
