Trump Slams Fed, Threatens Trade Halt Over Interest Rate
US President Donald Trump has called on the Federal Reserve to lower its benchmark interest rate, warning that Washington could halt trade relations with several countries if it refuses. Speaking on Truth Social, Trump stated that the US should have the lowest interest rate in the world.
In a direct and uncompromising message, Trump said 'LOWER THE RATE OR I'LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT', which he claimed is within his authority. He compared this to tariffs, saying it's 'BETTER THAN TARIFFS!'
The Federal Reserve has kept the benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.5%-3.75% since its meeting in late July. Its next scheduled meeting on interest rates is set for September 15-16.
