Trump Warns Weak Yen Pressuring US Trade in Talks with Japan's PM
Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi met with US President Donald Trump this week, and during their summit, Trump expressed concerns about the weak Japanese yen. Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama revealed that Trump discussed the yen's weakness in general terms, but not specific levels or rate interventions.
Katayama stated that Japan will closely coordinate with the US on foreign exchange matters, while also allowing the Bank of Japan (BoJ) to implement suitable monetary policies in cooperation with the government.
Regarding the yen's value, Katayama noted that excessive selling may be corrected and markets are 'misunderstanding' the weak yen. However, he did not provide further details on this matter.
