Trump's Tariff Tirade Sparks Canadian-EU Alliance

Donald Trump's presidency has been marked by a significant increase in executive orders and presidential memoranda, with some critics arguing that this constitutes a dictatorship. Since his inauguration on January 20, 2025, Trump has issued over 500 executive orders, as well as 81 presidential memoranda and 181 proclamations. This blizzard of executive actions has been criticized for bypassing Congress and ignoring the rule of law.

The target of much of this criticism is Canada, which Trump has attacked through tariffs and rhetoric. However, the Canadian government has not buckled under pressure, with Prime Minister Mark Carney vowing to prioritize Canadian suppliers in federal contracts. This stance has earned Canada an offer of 'associate membership' in the European Union from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

As a result of the trade tensions between the US and Canada, travel to the US by Canadians is down 27% compared to last year, with a loss of $4.5 billion to the American economy. However, Americans are still traveling freely to Canada, with some even taking advantage of the lower prices on Canadian goods.
