TSX Bounces Back Amid Easing Oil Prices
The TSX index opened higher on Friday as easing oil prices offset concerns about a potential Federal Reserve rate hike. The S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 0.88 per cent to 35,817.66 points at 09:32 ET.
Despite the gain, investors are still cautious due to rising odds of a Fed rate hike and the intensifying Middle East conflict. Fluctuating interest rate expectations have left the market fragile.
The main US stock indexes were also up, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 140.4 points, or 0.27 per cent, to 52,204.46. The S&P 500 rose 45.1 points, or 0.59 per cent, to 7,636.75.
Consumer inflation accelerated in August, with the Consumer Price Index increasing 0.4 per cent last month after edging up 0.1 per cent in July. In the 12 months through August, consumer inflation advanced 3.4 per cent.
