The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) extended its decline on September 30, 2026, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index falling to around 35,380. This represents a 0.2-0.3% decrease from Tuesday's close of 35,460.27.

The weakness in bank stocks was a major contributor to the decline, as Canadian banks make up the largest sector weight in the S&P/TSX Composite. Rising long-term bond yields have raised concerns about credit quality and loan growth, with the US 30-year Treasury yield crossing 5.6% on Tuesday, its highest level since 2002.

Trade tensions between Canada and the US also weighed on the index, following a US ban on multiple Canadian imports that came into force on Tuesday. The Canadian dollar traded around 70.5 US cents on Tuesday, according to The Canadian Press.
