TSX Surges on Tech Stocks as Bank of Canada Comments Fuel Optimism
The TSX Composite Index rose by 0.57% to close at 36,009.40 on Monday, driven mainly by gains in technology and financial stocks.
Investors were responding to comments from the Bank of Canada's Governor Tiff Macklem about inflation and growth prospects.
Macklem noted that US tariffs could slash Canada's fourth-quarter growth to below 1%, but this did not immediately affect investor sentiment, which remained focused on technology sector performance.
The tech index rose by a substantial 2.96%, with Shopify leading the pack at a gain of 7.8% and Blackberry rising by 7%.
