UK Inflation Fears Ease as Expectations Plummet

UK inflation expectations have fallen to their lowest level in months, according to a recent survey by Citi and YouGov. Despite the surge in global oil prices, households' year-ahead inflation expectations sank to 3.4% in July, down from 3.8% in June. This decline in expectations is significant, as it brings them close to levels seen before the Iran war. Long-term expectations also cooled, decreasing from 3.9% to 3.7%. The data suggests that households are becoming increasingly optimistic about the future of inflation.

The survey's findings may be attributed to a combination of factors, including a strong UK economy and low unemployment rates. However, experts caution that volatile oil prices could still pose a threat to consumer confidence in the coming months.
