UK Inflation Reaches 3.1%, Energy Prices Weigh on Economy
The UK's inflation rate has risen to 3.1% in August, up from 2.9% in July, as energy prices continue to surge.
Petrol, diesel, and air fares were among the biggest contributors to this increase, while higher global energy prices linked to the conflict in the Middle East could push costs even higher in the coming months.
Economists warn that inflation may have further to climb, with food and fuel prices potentially feeling the effects of the energy shock.
The Bank of England's target is 2%, but for now, interest rates remain unchanged at 3.75% after a sixth consecutive meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee.
