US Gas Prices Soar to $4.47 Amid Inflation Fears
U.S. gasoline prices have reached $4.47 per gallon on average, marking a fresh rise of 3.01 cents overnight and 17.37 cents from a week earlier. This development comes two days after the Federal Reserve raised interest rates to combat inflation.
The increase puts regular gasoline 40.33 cents above its month-ago level and $1.2651 above a year ago, representing about a 9.9% increase in a month and a 39.5% rise in a year.
While the Federal Reserve's decision to raise interest rates was aimed at containing inflation, the impact of higher pump prices can squeeze discretionary spending, raising borrowing costs for households and companies.
