US Inflation Remains Stubbornly High Amid Energy Price Pressures
The US inflation rate remains stubbornly high, with consumer prices increasing by 3.7% in July compared to the same period last year.
This is according to the Federal Reserve's preferred measure of inflation, the personal consumption expenditure price index, which has been unchanged from June and still exceeds the Fed's target of 2% annual inflation.
The core prices, a measure that strips out volatile food and energy categories, also rose by 3.3% from a year earlier, matching June's rate.
Policymakers are grappling with how to address this issue, with some arguing that they can afford to wait before raising interest rates, while others insist that decisive action is needed to prevent inflation from getting out of control.
