US Stock Markets End Week Mixed as Fed Hike Looms

The US stock markets ended the week mixed on Friday, following Wednesday's first Fed rate hike in three years. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lagged its peers, closing at 51,681.51, down 96.53 points or 0.19 percent, on volume of 722.416M.

The Standard and Poor's 500 closed at 7,650.16 points on Friday, up 12.40 points or 0.16 percent, on volume of 4.958B. The benchmark traded between 7,610.52 and 7,657.17 during the session.

Scott Welch, chief investment officer at Certuity, told CNBC that some uncertainty was removed this week when the Fed hiked rates. He anticipates additional hikes will follow, predicting one more time in 2026 and probably two times in 2027.
