Utah Economy Adds 20,600 Jobs in Past Year
The Utah Department of Workforce Services has released new employment data for August 2026. According to the report, Utah's nonfarm payroll employment increased by an estimated 1.2% over the past 12 months.
The state's economy added a cumulative 20,600 jobs since August 2025, bringing the total job count to 1,788,800. The counties of Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah saw slight changes in employment numbers, with Daggett County remaining at 584, Duchesne County dropping to 8,970, and Uintah County landing at 15,090.
Ben Crabb, DWS chief economist, attributed Utah's economic stability to its expanding prime-age workforce, which has secured employment at high rates. However, he also noted that the broader hiring landscape has cooled around the edges, leading to a more competitive environment for secondary hours, part-time shifts, and those entering the workforce.
