Warsh Sought on Trump Calls: Senators Press for Transparency
Four Democratic senators have asked Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh to disclose all conversations he had with President Donald Trump since taking office. The senators, including Chris Van Hollen, Jack Reed, Angela Alsobrooks, and Elizabeth Warren, sent a letter to Warsh urging him to release details of every conversation with Trump since May.
The request follows reports that Trump and Warsh spoke by phone several times, discussing the economic outlook and views. However, Trump did not directly seek any specific monetary policy action during those calls.
The senators argued that communication between the Fed and the White House should be disclosed transparently to maintain confidence in monetary policy. They noted that making these discussions public is important to show the Fed remains independent of the White House, as Warsh himself had pledged to uphold this principle.
The issue has emerged as Trump continues to press the Fed to cut interest rates, and the White House resumed efforts to remove Fed Governor Lisa Cook.
