Williams Warns of Elevated Interest Rates and Reshaped Dollar Pricing
New York Fed President John Williams brought up concerns about inflation and interest rates at a recent macroeconomic policy forum, which is reshaping the pricing of the U.S. dollar.
The current U.S. dollar index is hovering around 101, while the yield on the U.S. 10-year Treasury note has recently climbed to roughly 5.12%, near its highest level since 2007. The market pricing for another 25-basis-point hike by the Federal Reserve in October has risen to approximately 77%.
Williams emphasized that inflation remains the primary obstacle to bringing price stability back to the 2% target, and employment risks have receded. He stated that 'Traders believe that another rate hike this year may be appropriate, which in my view is a reasonable line of thinking.'
