Yen Strengthens to ¥153.6 Per Dollar Amid Expectations of Rate Hikes
The Japanese yen has strengthened to its highest level since February 18, reaching ¥153.6 per US dollar on September 8. During morning Asian trading, the currency quickly entered the ¥153 range and held at that level.
Analysts suggest that the strengthening of the yen is likely linked to expectations that Japan will take decisive action to halt its weakening, particularly after pressure from the United States. This move comes as investors and traders expect a more hawkish stance from the Bank of Japan.
The market has priced the probability of the Japanese central bank raising its rate next week at 99%, with expectations also strengthened that the regulator will raise the rate twice by the end of the year.
