$11.7 Billion Haul: Goldman Sachs' Private Equity Arm Raises Record Funds
Goldman Sachs' private equity arm has raised $11.7 billion for its latest flagship fund and related vehicles, according to the bank's asset management division.
The funds, which include WSCP IX, the ninth vintage of Goldman Sachs Alternatives' flagship buyout business, have received commitments from institutional and high-net-worth investors in North America, Europe, and the Middle East. A significant portion of this capital comes from Goldman Sachs itself and its employees.
Michael Bruun, global co-head of private equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, stated that over one-third of the raised capital has already been invested. The fund's investments include Schellman, a U.S.-based cybersecurity audit firm, Numantec, a European medical devices maker, and Excel Sports Management, a U.S. sports representation and marketing agency.
Bruun explained that Goldman Sachs plans to hold these investments for approximately four to five years before facilitating an exit. He emphasized the importance of value creation over this period, noting that the firm looks at companies with enterprise values between $500 million and $2 to $3 billion.
