$145M Raise Fuels CScale's Quest for AI Networking Breakthrough
CScale, a Silicon Valley startup focused on developing AI networking technology, has raised $145 million in venture capital. The funding round was led by Atreides Management, Valor Equity Partners, and Premji Invest, with existing investors Sutter Hill Ventures and Maverick Silicon also participating.
The company's CEO, Martin Lund, previously worked as the head of chip and hardware systems at Cisco Systems before joining CScale earlier this year. Lund declined to provide specifics about the technology but stated that it uses proven technologies in a novel way, integrating lasers onto chips without interrupting data flow when failures occur.
The funding will support CScale's goal of shipping its AI networking chips by 2028. This development is part of the larger industry trend towards replacing copper cables with optical connections for AI data center servers, aiming to address limitations in reach and heat generated by tightly packed processors.
