The banking industry continues to profit from overdraft fees, collecting $2.96 billion in the first six months of 2026 alone.

This amount is on pace with 2024 and 2025, after a decline of nearly half between 2019 and 2023 when several major banks cut or eliminated their fees.

JPMorgan Chase accounted for about 19% of all reported overdraft and NSF fees in the first half of 2026, more than any other bank.
