$3 Trillion Club: Amazon Surges to Record High on AI and Cloud Growth
Amazon has reached a market capitalization of $3 trillion for the first time in its history, fueled by strong demand for artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The company's shares surged 5.5% to $286.20 on Monday, with a year-to-date gain of over 23%. This milestone comes just two years after Amazon first reached a $2 trillion valuation.
The growth is largely driven by Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company's cloud-computing division, which has benefited from the AI boom. Businesses are increasingly investing in computing power and infrastructure needed to develop and run AI applications, boosting demand for AWS services. This trend has reassured investors that Amazon's massive spending on AI infrastructure will translate into stronger growth rather than weighing on cash flow.
Amazon has been committing billions of dollars to expand its AI capabilities, including a new investment in Anthropic in April and plans to invest as much as $50 billion in OpenAI. The company joins an exclusive group of only a handful of companies to have reached a $3 trillion market capitalization, including Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Nvidia.
