$5.7 Billion Patent Verdict Rocks Apple
A federal jury in California has ordered Apple to pay over $5.7 billion in damages for patent infringement, marking the largest patent infringement verdict in U.S. history.
The ruling stems from Taction Technology's lawsuit against Apple, filed in 2021, alleging that Apple's Taptic Engine infringed on two of its haptic feedback patents.
The jury found that Apple's use of the Taptic Engine, which is used in iPhones and Apple Watches, infringed on the patents but ruled that the infringement was not willful.
Apple has announced it will appeal the verdict, stating that 'the verdict is entirely unsupported by the facts' and that its Taptic Engine is fundamentally different from Taction's technology.
