A $80 million settlement has been reached in a lawsuit against Honeywell/Solstice and related parties, including the Department of Energy. The agreement was announced on September 29 by Kruger & Abell Law Firm.

The City of Metropolis, the County of Massac, and class representatives have agreed to general terms with Honeywell, Solstice, and the Department of Energy. Lead council Richard Kruger emphasized that the settlement still requires preliminary approval from Chief Judge Staci M. Yandle later this year.

The settlement allocates $50 million to property owners within a three-mile radius of the plant for health initiatives and upgrades to Massac Memorial Hospital. An additional $20 million will go towards government claims, including public health initiatives. The remaining $10 million will be used to resolve outstanding individual claims.
