Abbott, Google Team Up on Glucose Data, AI Health Coaching
Abbott and Google have announced a multi-year partnership to combine glucose data from Abbott's over-the-counter sensor, Lingo, with Google's artificial intelligence (AI) and consumer technology. The goal is to make metabolic insights easier to use and help people proactively manage their health.
The companies plan to launch a large study that could inform Google's AI health coaching and future features for Abbott's device. The study will integrate data from continuous glucose, wearable devices, laboratory tests, and surveys to understand the connections between activity, sleep, well-being, and metabolic health.
Abbott will connect its glucose insights into the Google Health app later this year, allowing users to see how their daily habits affect blood sugar levels. For premium subscribers, Google's AI-powered health coach will use this data to provide personalized recommendations for building healthier habits.
The collaboration comes as other diabetes tech firms are exploring digital health partnerships and AI applications. Abbott did not disclose the number of people they plan to enroll in the study.
