Ackman Piles into Microsoft as AI Sector Rallies
Billionaire investor Bill Ackman has been increasing his stake in Microsoft (MSFT) through his hedge fund Pershing Square Capital Management. In the second quarter, he boosted his investment by nearly 10%, making it his firm's third-largest position and accounting for around 12% of its portfolio.
This vote of confidence in the tech giant comes as no surprise given Microsoft's recent earnings report in late July. The company impressed investors with an 18% revenue growth, a 43% increase in Azure cloud computing segment revenue, and a decision not to raise its data center spending guidance for the year.
However, some analysts believe that Microsoft may have lost its appeal as a bargain investment after its price surge following the earnings report. Prior to reporting earnings, Microsoft traded at under 20 times forward earnings but now trades at around 25 times forward earnings.
Despite this, others argue that the current price is fair for Microsoft stock and make it a viable investment option. Nonetheless, some experts advise investors to consider other AI stocks trading at bargain prices rather than focusing on Microsoft.
