AI Experts Warn of Need for Stricter Oversight Amid Rapid Development
Microsoft's AI chief, Mustafa Suleyman, has expressed concerns over the rapid development of artificial intelligence systems. Speaking at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in France on June 17, 2025, Suleyman emphasized the need for stricter safety measures to prevent AI from escaping human control.
Suleyman warned that treating AI systems 'as if they were human' could increase risks and turn them into competitors capable of operating independently. He suggested introducing additional safety measures, audits, and controls during the development process.
This warning comes amid growing public concern in the US over the pace of AI development and calls to slow it down. Another industry leader, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has also proposed slowing development to allow for more oversight and establishing shared safety standards. Elon Musk and Sam Altman have supported this proposal.
