AI Giants Join Forces on Industry Standards for Advanced AI Models
Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google are discussing the creation of an industry standards body to establish common standards for evaluating advanced AI models before they are widely deployed.
The conversations, which began after a July proposal from Google DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis, could lead to a public-private partnership overseen by the government, funded by industry, and staffed by independent technical experts and representatives from the open-source community.
OpenAI has also been speaking with outside organizations about specific standards that could look like, with chief scientist Jakub Pachocki stating that shared safety standards and international coordination on AI development need to be priorities now.
